The adapter is designed to take a 10-inch MacBook Pro and a 4.1-inch MacBook Air. You can’t buy adapters for any other Apple laptop. The adapter works best with Macs with Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 ports.

The other downside is that the hard drive adapter also has a Thunderbolt 3 port where the adapters for the other ports don’t. This means you will be limited to Thunderbolt 1 adapters, which aren’t the best option for most people.

So if you are a die hard Apple fan, you have a few options, either buy the adapter, or look for another adapter.
